I can't see myself typing anything longer than an e-mail on the iPad but I'm sure some writers are able to write articles from it. (And a while back I read that someone in Japan had written a novel using his cell phone.) Can see alot of graphics usage with this--people can already make drawings and "paintings" on the iPhone (which have already made it to the cover of The New Yorker) and it would be easier on the iPad.

btw, love the pic of M with the iPad!

Thanks Fantastique - I've tried editing this post, and composing an outline for a class assignment--it worked reasonably well, but I'm much slower on the iPad than I am on my keyboard. I'm with you on graphics production--the Adobe Ideas application lets you make quick sketches and mark up pictures--there are more advanced ones available, but I don't have the analong drawing skills. Did you see the New Yorker piece on the cell phone novel? Worth a read: http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2008/12/22/081222fa_fact_goodyear

If the iPad had an optional stylus and ability to hand write in shorthand (a la Palm PDA), imagine all the other possibilities...

Thanks Rebecca. I think there's lots of potential there. I've tinkered a bit with the Pogo Touch Stylus http://is.gd/bqWGy Could see it being handy for finer annotations, but no handwriting recognition...yet. The Dragon Dictation app's performance has been strong at transcribing speech.

Ted, I haven't seen that New Yorker piece. Thanks for posting that. Am also a fan of Adrian Tomine, so that artwork is a bonus for me!
